The commercial portion on the first floor of the development includes 3,400 sq. ft
for a community commercial kitchen to support small culinary businesses, and
start-ups and provides access to business incubation resources. Plans also include
3,000 sq. ft of programmable community space for Building Blocks, a non-profit
that provides tutoring for school-aged children. A 700 sq. ft incubator for
commercial space will also be available for lease with street frontage and access.
This development is located within the City’s 133-acre Village Creek
redevelopment area on a 1.71-acre vacant parcel owned by the City’s Economic
Development Authority (EDA). The design and amenities of this project align with
the 2005 Village Master Plan/Shingle Creek Corridor Plan, and this plan closely
follows the development plan approved in 2010. This project will further the
Village Creek Redevelopment Plan by transforming the site into a vibrant,
pedestrian friendly community that will catalyze the area by providing new
housing options and entrepreneurial opportunities. The overarching goal is to
create a strong and welcoming pedestrian connection from Shingle Creek and
Village Creek Park to the south of Welcome Avenue.
